Pro Tips
- Apply wood conditioner to softwoods (pine, spruce, fir) and blotch-prone species (cherry, birch, maple) before staining with liquid stain. If you want to skip the conditioner step, use the Gel Stain instead -- it handles uneven absorption better on its own.
- Stain colour on the swatch card is approximate. Always test on a scrap piece of the actual wood you are staining -- species, grain, and moisture content all affect the final colour significantly.
- After staining, allow 24 hours to dry before applying a clear topcoat (Varathane Diamond, Professional, or Triple Thick). The stain provides colour; the topcoat provides protection.
