Tyvek Tape

Tyvek Tape

Tyvek

Tyvek Tape is a self-adhesive seam and flashing tape designed for use with Tyvek HomeWrap and other DuPont weather-resistant barrier products. Available at Windsor Plywood, Tyvek Tape seals seams, laps, and transitions in the building envelope at window and door rough openings, horizontal overlaps in the house wrap, and penetrations through the air barrier.

Features

  • Self-adhesive acrylic adhesive bonds to Tyvek, OSB, plywood, and most building substrates
  • Required for a continuous air and water barrier at all house wrap seams and laps
  • UV resistant for temporary weather exposure during construction
  • Maintains adhesion through freeze-thaw cycling after installation
  • Compatible with all DuPont Tyvek house wrap products

Common Uses

Tyvek Tape is used in new residential and commercial construction to seal all seams and laps in the house wrap weather-resistant barrier system. It is also used as a flashing tape at window and door rough openings to prevent water infiltration at these high-risk transitions in the building envelope.

Pro Tips

  • Apply Tyvek Tape to clean, dry surfaces -- adhesive performance is significantly reduced on wet, dirty, or dusty substrates.
  • Press the tape firmly along its full length using a roller tool or the heel of your hand to ensure full contact adhesion -- particularly important at edges and corners.
  • At window rough openings, install sill flashing first, then overlap the house wrap over the top flashing piece -- this creates a weather-lapped, shingle-style sequence that sheds water away from the opening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Tyvek Tape be applied in cold weather?
Tyvek Tape can be applied in temperatures as low as -18 degrees C with reduced initial tack. For best results in cold weather, warm the tape roll before use and press firmly with a roller. Full adhesive strength develops at temperatures above 0 degrees C.

Is Tyvek Tape required on all house wrap seams?
Yes. To achieve a continuous air and water barrier, all seams, laps, and penetrations in the house wrap must be sealed with tape. Unsealed seams allow air and moisture infiltration that reduces building envelope energy performance.
