Windsor Plywood carries Arborite high-pressure laminate sheet goods in a range of colours, patterns, and textures. Arborite is a Canadian laminate brand offering surfaces for countertops, cabinetry doors, wall panels, and furniture applications. Post-form and flat sheet formats are available.
High-pressure laminate is manufactured by bonding multiple layers of kraft paper and a decorative print layer under high heat and pressure with melamine or phenolic resin. The result is a hard, dense surface that is resistant to scratching, heat, and moisture. It is then bonded to a substrate such as MDF or particleboard for countertop and panel applications.
Arborite laminate is bonded to MDF, particleboard, plywood, and other rigid substrates using contact cement or laminate adhesive. MDF provides the smoothest substrate surface for the most consistent laminate appearance. Particleboard is cost-effective for cabinet interiors and low-visibility applications. Windsor Plywood carries both substrate materials and the adhesives required for laminate bonding.
Post-form laminate countertops have a factory-formed curved front edge profile. For custom fabrication from flat Arborite sheet, edge options include a matching laminate edge strip, a solid wood edge band, a beveled or eased edge cut from the substrate, or a metal edge profile. Each option has a different appearance and fabrication requirement.
Minor chips can be filled with a colour-matched laminate repair paste. Burns that penetrate through the laminate layer typically cannot be repaired invisibly and usually require a section of countertop to be replaced. Preventive use of trivets and cutting boards is more practical than repair for maintaining laminate surface appearance over time.
